FD-IX turns 12

That is 12 years of packets moving fast, routes staying clean, and networks working together instead of fighting physics. In internet years, that is a long run.

FD-IX turns 12

In 2026, FD-IX marks 12 years in business.

That is 12 years of packets moving fast, routes staying clean, and networks working together instead of fighting physics.

FD-IX launched in 2014 with a simple goal: keep traffic local, lower latency, and cut transit costs. The model worked. Members joined. Traffic grew. New markets came online. The fabric expanded without losing its focus on stability and fairness.

Over the years, FD-IX has supported:

  • Local and regional ISPs
  • Content networks
  • Education and research networks
  • Enterprise and data center operators

The mission stayed the same. Build neutral exchange points that engineers trust.

Twelve years also means lessons learned. Ports get faster. Traffic patterns change. IPv6 goes from “someday” to “why didn’t we do this sooner.” Through it all, FD-IX kept investing in resilient design, simple pricing, and engineer-friendly operations.

2026 is not just a milestone. It is proof that community-driven infrastructure works when it is run by people who actually run networks.

If you have been with FD-IX since the early days, thank you. If you joined along the way, welcome to the story. And if you are just now looking at peering, you are arriving at a pretty good time.

Twelve years down. Plenty of routes ahead. continuing to #keeptrafficlocal
